Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions . Below, we have tried to answer the most common questions visitors to this our Web site may have.

How did you learn to dowse and when did you start dowsing?
I have been dowsing since 1978. When I was 11 my uncle came to our ranch to dowse a well for my father. After he left I was able to find the same spots he had located. I practiced and marked other spots and asked him to come back.  I did not show my uncle my marked spots and he found them. I realized with practice I could dowse. When I showed an interest my uncle began teaching me more. He had learned everything from his father, my grandfather, Walter Thompson. I have become the 3rd generation who has provided these services to land owners and developers of property. I have been fortunate to have learned and collaborated with some of the most knowledgeable in the state.

Is dowsing all that you do?
No, I am a Building contractor who builds residential spec. homes and performs large remodels. I have been Project Manager for remodels over 4 million in the Bay Area. To be closer to home I have started my own Contracting Company. Rob Thompson Builders, Inc. I continue my interest in dowsing and helping clients to achieve their goals in finding water for their needs.

How long have people been doing this?
The history of dowsing is endless. There is pictorial evidence that has been found in France in rock paintings in the caves of Tassilli which depict men using dowsing tools over 8,000 to 9,000 years ago. On another continent in Peru a rock carving shows a man holding a forked dowsing stick. The Chinese characters for Feng Shui translate as ‘wind and water’ and dowsing was referred to as an art in Feng Shui. Confucius mentions dowsing in his writing in 2500 BC. There have been references of dowsing or divination guidance in Egyptian tombs depicting dowsing. The Bible refers to dowsing for water many times. There is a wealth of information on the web.

Are people still using this?
Dowsing is still accepted world wide. My goal is not to go over the history or theory of dowsing but to introduce myself. As a third generation dowser, I am available to do what I feel I have been so successful at, helping people with their decision on the location of drilling their wells. I suggest you read the newspaper articles.
Do you get very many calls?
Of course during the winter month’s people usually are not interested in determining well locations.  Early spring and thru out the summer and late fall I get booked up.  I enjoy meeting people and feel fortunate to help them.
